Two policemen and a civilian were today injured in a grenade explosion at a police station in the Damhal Hanjipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
“Militants hurled a hand grenade, which exploded on the premises of the police station,” said a senior police officer from the area.
He said two policemen and a civilian who was at the station for some work were left with splinter injuries and were rushed to a hospital, where their condition is stated to be stable. The incident took place around 4:30 pm.
The injured have been identified as Constable Muhammad Altaf, special police officer Janbaz Ahmad and civilian Altaf Magray.
“The constable and the civilian have splinter injuries to their chest while Janbaz has injuries to his legs,” the police officer said.
Following the grenade attack, huge contingents of security forces reached the area and searches were being carried out to nab the attackers while the report was being filed.
Over the last week, there has been a spike in militant attacks across south Kashmir, including grenade attacks on residences of mainstream politicians.
A policeman was shot at and injured late Wednesday evening in Shopian district while he was at a petrol station.
